HOT NEON LEARNING | 2018–2025 | Strategy & World BuildingI co-founded and led a learning and multimedia design agency that proved learning doesn’t have to be boring.
-
I co-founded Hot Neon Productions with Jordan Wright and Kenny James in 2018 as a video production and motion graphics studio to complement my other communications and training business. In 2020, Kenny left and David Kativu and Dan Porter joined as partners.
By 2022, Hot Neon was growing with major Canadian and US clients. After completing my Master's in Educational Technology, I expanded the business to serve corporate, non-profit, and healthcare clients' training, video, and interactive educational multimedia needs.
Typical jobs were large-scale multimedia-rich interactive learning experiences which required a blend of original art, technology, and behavioural science. We applied our methodology with success to create memorable onboarding, enablement programs, compliance training, leadership development, and educational campaigns.I led the creation of solutions for notable companies like TELUS, BC Centre for Disease Control, Transalta, ATCO, BC Cancer, TransCare BC, Westjet, and Accent Inns.
Major initiatives I led included the transition to Hot Neon Learning from Hot Neon Productions in 2023, the merger with Great Minds, the creation of the Learning Experience Design service line and consulting revenue streams (which at their peak grew to over half of the company's total revenue), the 2023 website rebuild which increased traffic and conversions by over 200%, and guiding the development of the company's leadership team and culture.
Operationally, I was acting as the principal consultant for the business working directly with clients to solve business problems from 2022 to 2025 and created the company's Learning Experience Design Playbook, which provides step-by-step processes and procedures.I was also the primary agent of thought leadership at the company, writing all blog posts between 2022 and the end of 2025, developing the company's positioning and point of view on learning, motion design, and interactivity, and instilling that into the company's approach. In late 2025 I left the company to focus on my personal design and consulting practice, Pink Bull Rodeo, and Forge Centre for Dignity-Driven Leadership.
